Transcription[1]

To John Fleming Esq, Chilworth, we the Bell Ringers of the venerable Old Abbey Church Tower of Romsey hailed with joy the most happy event, at the Birth of a Son & Heir, to the most noble & ancient family of the Fleming Estates at Stoneham, Chilworth, Baddesley & Romsey Extra, &c. &c. by enlivening the Inhabitants of the Borough of Romsey by giving them some merry & welcome peals from our Old Church Tower. And we have also this day given some more merry peals in the celebrated auspicious ceremony of the Christening of the infant Son & Heir of the Noble Fleming Estates, and we wish you all the happiness this world can afford, and that your infant son may live many years to inherit the vast Estates & Possessions of his noble forefathers. We beg to sincerely subscribe ourselves the Romsey Abbey Church Bell Ringers. Janry 15th 1872.’
