St Martin's Day, 11 November, is an important day in the Willis calendar. Dr Thomas Willis died on 11 November 1675, and his eldest son Thomas - Browne Willis's father - on 11 November 1699. For this reason, Browne Willis revered the day, and dedicated his chapel at Fenny Stratford to St Martin in memory of his grandfather.
