I was surprised this morning to spot an appearance by JEAWF - 'Squire Fleming' - on Chris Wild's excellent time-travelling blog 'How To Visit The Past'.
There is JEAWF, trapped in 1922, braving the mud to formally open the new road bridge over Monk's Brook. After cutting the ribbon, he told the assembled onlookers that the days of the old fords (i.e. water crossings) had gone, and the conditions of "modern traffic" demanded much more.
That was 1922. What on earth would he make now of the M3 and M27?
